DIANA'S AGATE and STAINED GLASS ART

Livingstone Glass Studio utilizes exclusively the semi-precious agate which was collected by Mr. Charles W Livingston Sr (Charlie) between about 1935 and 1985. Charlie was born in 1901 in Marfa, Texas. His father was the local west Texas Undertaker operating in Presidio and Brewster Counties of far west Texas.

Charlie and his wife JoElla Funk Livingston were both licensed in the funeral business.

Charlie spent many hours and weeks climbing the hills of west Texas searching for the beautiful agates which are found there.

Diana shares the same love and appreciation for the beautiful agates that Charlie experienced many years ago.

She carefully selects the agates and combines them with glass to create an outstanding piece.

These agates are intentionally left in their original condition (as far as the shape of the agate is concerned).  They are polished on both sides in order that they blend well with the stained glass.  Diana prefers to work with agate in which the color has not been altered in any fashion. There will be no commercial Dye or Coloring in her Agate Artwork.

Diana rarely works with Geodes, although the round geode slabs are available for purchase.  She prefers to place each agate into the piece individually, and allow the shape of the agate to determine where the various intersecting lines (or joints) will fall. It is her opinion that this allows for a more natural-looking piece when completed.

Diana generally uses Black Plume Agate, Red Plume Agate, Pom Pom Agate from WOODWARD'S Needle Peak In west Texas, banded or fortification agate, Brazilian Agate, Thistle Agate, and a few others from around the world, all of which are part of the Livingston Collection of Charles Livingston.

Diana understands that we are all "keepers of the rocks" and therefore simply responsible for the caretaking of the agates during our lifetimes. These agates have been around for millions of years and will continue to be here long after we have left the planet. Thus we may enjoy and share their beauty for a time.

Here we have some of Diana's latest Agate and Stained Glass combinations.....
